hello and farewell

Since I'm the last of the 805 crew to really have much of a presence on Xanga, I thought I'd leave you with this story as a sort of farewell gift:

After a solid 45 minutes of  a "liberals are basically poop" speech, my dad gave in and granted me permission to be a liberal. Thanks dad! Too bad I was doing that already anyway, with or without your consent!

It's been real, guys. Jeff out.

Aiight. So it's been an exciting couple of days, although also a little bit hectic. We cleaned out the basement, hung up acoustic foam and relocated the entire studio there. It will take me days (seriously) to set it up, run cables, etc...but it's nice to be out of the basement of Shattered and it's really nice to not have to go to band practice anymore.

This also means no more free beer, although I think I probably took advantage of the free Mountain Dew to a greater extent than I did the beer.

It was a little bit strange to intentionally lock my keys inside the building, knowing I will never again go in there, but it's a good thing since now I can concentrate on making my own music.

Ok, so Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion appears to be everything I expected...and more. I didn't have much time to play between school and studying for midterms and whatnot, but I accomplished quite a bit in the hour that I played.

After exiting the sewers, I began collecting various reagents to make cheesy potions. It was raining and I couldn't see very far, so I stumbled upon some bandit camp/cave and immediately slayed everyone inside and looted all their stuff. After that, I managed to find a city, steal a horse, rob a guardhouse, and do other various actions of questionable legality.

One problem I had in Elder Scrolls III was that as I ran through various towns, all the citizens insulted me in one way or another. As a result, a great number of them got to taste my sword. Then the guards rushing to save them tasted my sword also. This usually escalated into complete mayhem with corpses stacked to the heavens. So far, nobody has insulted me and it has been relatively peaceful. But this may just be because I know I'm still too weak to kill guards.

One thing that's new (I think) is the concept of non-slayable characters. These are people that are important to the storyline. This is both good and bad, good because you can't kill someone important like you could in previous games and therefore be unable to finish the main quest, bad because some people (like the Captain of the Guard in the Imperial City) are characters I would very much like to kill at some point.

Summary of the final battle in Gothic II:

Undead Dragon: "Time to die!"

Me: *Chop*

Undead Dragon: *Dies*

GAME OVER!

Yep. A one-hit victory. I have to admit that going across the world slaying every townsperson (they give you experience!) before embarking on the final battle helped a LOT. I was so tremendously overpowered and burdened with loot that the last 1/5 of the game was a cakewalk. I didn't even bother to stop for enemies anymore, I just did a running attack (which always killed them) and kept on going.

The best part is that initially instead of slaying townspeople I just knocked them out and stole everything they had. Including their weapon. When they recovered from being knocked out they would stand there and punch me or do karate kicks, both of which infllicted 0 points of damage on me. Since I did this to everyone, I would run around town and be chased by a punching, kicking mob. In one classic cutscene, the sound of the dialogue is drowned out by constant punching and kicking noises and you can only see the top of my head due to the crowd of people surrounding me.

I've owned Gothic II since 2003 when it came out and I just now got around to finishing it. I was a huge fan of the first one and I think it was actually better than the sequel. In any case, they're right up there behind Fallout and Buck Rogers: Countdown to Doomsday for my all-time favorite RPG's.

What is up peeps?

My latest track "Habitrail For Humanity" is getting airplay on pirate radio in Minneapolis!

My other track, "I'm A Clone" (this is a crappy version since I didn't record it properly) will be released on Anode Records this summer.

Flippin' Sweet!
